Walk into any drugstore and find the press-on aisle. Now count how many "nude" sets would actually disappear against your skin. If your skin is deeper, the honest answer is usually zero, because those nudes were mixed for someone else and on you they read grey, ashy, or pink.
Here is what is actually going on. "Nude" is not a colour; it is a match. A nude that works has to sit close to your skin's own depth and undertone. Deeper skin usually carries warm golden, red, or neutral-brown undertones, and it punishes two things instantly: grey undertones (that ashy cast) and chalky opacity (that grey-pink film). Mainstream nudes have both, because they were calibrated on lighter skin where they read as "neutral".
How to find your true nude in one minute: look at the inside of your wrist and the back of your hand in daylight. If your veins read greenish and gold jewellery flatters you, you are warm; mix toward caramel, amber, and bronze-browns. If veins read blue-purple and silver flatters, you are cool; mix toward mocha, mahogany, and red-browns. If both look right, you are neutral and most true browns will sit well. The rule of thumb: your nude is your skin plus or minus one shade, never plus three.
